Ceramicook is the completed vision of Stuart Hutchinson. The journey started in
high school during his sophomore year when he needed to sign up for an elective
pottery course. By his junior year he was in every ceramics class offered, and by
his senior year was finding ways to spend his free time in the studio. In the summer
after graduating high school he bought a wheel and a kiln and started a studio in his
parents back yard. That fall he went to Linfield College in Oregon and decided to
major in business along with taking courses in ceramics. The ceramic courses were
where he continued to learn more about the science of ceramics. He learned the science
of making glazes, by gaining the understanding of the elements used and their effect. He
also improved his understanding of firing styles and science. A year after graduating College
Stuart got the idea of creating a website to feature his artwork. The development of his idea
was put on hold shortly after due to losing the studio. At the same time Stuart was alerted
that there was a new culinary school opening in Scottsdale Arizona. Stuart decided that the
timing was right to jump at the chance to enroll and follow his passion for cooking. After
spending four years working in the restaurant business Stuart bought a home in Mesa with
a detached workshop, which he turned into a pottery studio. In 2007 Stuart renewed the
vision and developed the website.
